The Best Female Poker Player Joins The Biggest Hedge Fund
Vanessa Selbst, who is known as the most successful woman in tournament poker, is currently working at Bridgewater Associates and she is here to learn another big-money grind: hedge funds.
In her post she said, “This environment feels a lot similar to poker did back in the day — a bunch of nerdy kids combined to try to beat our opponents in a game, it is also freaking difficult.”
Hedge funds have bowed to unconventional methods of acquiring fresh talent that could help them to boost performance. Citadel Ken Griffin co-hosted a worth of year data-science competitions at top universities to recruit students who might seek jobs at technology giants such as Apple Inc or Facebook Inc.
However, when tried, to contact spokeswoman for Westport, Connecticut-based Bridgewater they declined to give any comment on the Selbst hire.
Though Selbst is now 33 years old and made her name in the world of casino, but her undergraduate and law degrees from Yale University point to a more traditional hedge fund background. And prior to joining $160 billion firms of Ray Dalio, she worked part-time at a police misconduct plaintiffs’ law firm.
She said, “Every day I think I am getting the hang of it, and the next day I fail at the next challenge,” she said. “It is exciting, exhausting, and completely humbling.”
